Département du Nord-Est Travel Guide: 4 reviews and 5 photos

The Departement du Nord-Est is where I spent my time in Haiti. I have been to less developed nations before but this was different. This is the first place I actually seen large portions of the populations living in mud huts. Where the gas station was an old lady with two litres of fuel in plastic bottles sitting on the side of the road. Where I think I saw some of my donated childhood clothes. This was a very exciting experience for me. I have always wanted to go to Africa and even though I have never been at that point, I imagined that this is what it was like. Unfortunately it was only a taste of Haiti that I got. I really hope to go back and explore the country thoroughly when things are a little more settled.

It must have been quite a culture shock to suddenly step into one of the world's poorest countries! Probably a good idea to wait for things to settle down a bit before making a major trip out of it.
