Cancun Visited - and Revisited

Enjoying the Caribbean
Who: Pat&ZoAnn
What: Fall Getaway
When: Nov. 22 to Nov. 29, 2003
and March 27 to April 10, 2005
Where: Cancun, Mexico
Why: Really, we need a reason?

2003
After making quite a few trips to Mexico's west coast, we decided it was time to visit the Caribbean. Even though there is a wealth of historical touring to be done, we mostly hung around our hotel. It was merely for R&R anyway, but visiting those sites gives us a reason to return.

2005
Our younger son suffered a pretty severe car accident in November of 2004, and was wheelchair bound and required a lot of care for about 2 1/2 months. Once he was mobile enough, and no longer needing a wheelchair, we decided to have a family holiday, and take him and our older son here for a couple of weeks. As it turned out, Mike couldn't make it the first week, but came down for the second. We didn't actually stay in Cancun on this trip, but we were one week in Puerto Morelos and one week in Playa del Carmen.

2006
Strictly speaking, this wasn't a trip to Cancun except that we flew into and out of Cancun Airport. We ended up staying on Isla Mujeres for one week, then rented a car and went to Chixulub on the gulf coast, near Merida.

Here' s a video of our first trip.

Puerto Vallarta and Cancun comparison
A lot of people wonder what the difference between the west and east coasts of Mexico are, is there any. Puerto Vallarta is on the edge of a hilly jungle, and makes for a pretty landscape. Cancun is FLAT, FLAT, FLAT.

Now, there are a lot more things the differentiate the two, and I hope to put some of them up here soon.

Beach

After we drove from Playa del Carmen, to Tulum, in our rented car, we went to Cancun to hit the Wal Mart to get cheap tequila. We took this shot just before the sunset. Looking north from a public access beach to Zona Hoteleria

Pros:"Beautiful beach, historical area"
Cons:"Plain terrain, very expensive"
In A Nutshell:"Planning our November 2006 trip already!"

Hi guys, thanks for your help with my DVD question. I enjoyed your Cancun page - great photos & tips. I was surprised (kind of!) to read that there's a Wal-mart there!!
