Isla, at last | Sunset from "La Garrafon" |
After our first trip to Cancun in 2003, we put a visit to Isla Mujeres high on our "must see" list. Since our this year vacation really was price driven, it was a last minute decision to go to Isla. It's a small island, so I thought we would have at least one trip to the mainland, but never left the island once, until we left for part two of our trip. There was some evidence of hurricane damage, but there isn't as much here to be destroyed as Cancun. |

| | View of Cancun This view of Cancun shows how close it is to Isla. Daytrips from Cancun's resorts mean that "touristas" are plenty during the day. At night they all go home, and we had the place to ourselves (well, almost to ourselves). |
Wild Isla (not THAT kind of wild!) The west coast of Isla, which faces out into the Caribbean, is quite rocky and windswept. From our hotel, we could walk from one side of the island to the other in about 10 minutes (yes, we power walk like Superman) | | | Conch shells on Isla Mujeres |
