The city of Victoria began as a humble trading post for the Hudson Bay Company in 1843. It was named after Queen Victoria, and is Western Canada's oldest city. It became the capital of the Province of British Columbia in 1871, when BC joined the Confederation of Canada.
Today, the population is just over 325,000, and boasts the most temperate climate in all of Canada. Many gardens and the strong British theme make visiting Victoria a truely unique experience.
As a government town, there are many politicians and bureaucrats working and living here.
