Forty four switchbacks! That's all it takes to climb Lassen Peak and take a look at the amazing view. When we climbed it as kids, many years ago, we had to trudge across big patches of snow, even though it was July and hot. At over 10,000 feet, the elevation can be a challenge, but heck, you get to earn those "Go climb a Volcano" T-shirts.

The park itself is beautiful with very few people, lots of hiking opportunity, camping, fishing, and a good education in volcanic activity.

Just remember, Lassen is not dead, it's merely sleeping!

Pros and Cons

Pros:Usually not terribly crowded. A great opportunity to view nature, up close and personal

This is a really good Lassen Volcano page. I was out there in 1979 and we went up the road on bicycles so, we couldn't really hike up. and we didn't have boots either.

Your Lassen page reminds me of the visit I paid to the Park but sadly without great hikes! I hope you will add pictures. May be I will some day build a page!
