Hello!

My most compelling experience in Kolkuta was the time we spent on the banks of the Ganges (or the Hougli, if you prefer, which flowed into the Ganges).

Immediately we were greeted by a group of children. They were happy and friendly and very excited to be "making friends" with us foreigners (me, an American, Chiew Mee and KW, Malaysians, and ex-Indians Ramesh and Raj). They reached out to shake our hands and were thrilled to have their photos taken. The only thing they wanted in return was to see our digital photos.

The girl in the blue dress was the ring leader. She told us she was 10 years old. I thought she couldn't be more than seven! And in some ways, she looked 47.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Kolkuta was a much cleaner, newer place than I expected
Cons:Still plenty of poverty
