NEVER NEVER GO in 'spring' (april-may) without having checked first the state of the snow...
I went at the end of may and there wasn't enough snow to do anything (usually there are tons of great activities like dog sledging, ice caving, skiing, glacier crossing etcetc) and too much slush to do any walking trip..
I was lucky to get the last days of snowmobile ...

Very cool photos, no pun intended. Svalbard/Longyearbyen have been on my Must See list for several years now, sighhhhh. If not the ANTarctic, then the ARCtic would be just fine, for starters! Beautiful place, I think...;-)

great tips and pics ! Svalbard is such an interesting place to go. I mostly had great sunshine and cruising around Spitzbergen was always a great adventure. I hope to return one day ...

I made the same mistake, but at the other end of the year. I guess the only difference was the days were getting shorter instead of longer. It was still very interesting.
