|  | Torun was founded in 1233 on the right bank of Vistula/Wisla river. In 14th century Torun had fast development of economy. At the same century city was joined to Hanseatic League. People were engaged in trading and craft. Torun was also a port. Wisla river was as way to the sea.

Two towns Originally in Middle Edges there were two towns located side by side. Today they are called The Old Town (Stare Miasto) and New Town (Nowe Miasto). It means old town of Torun consists of 2 parts. The Old Town was founded in 1233. In 1264 new urban centre - the New Town was founded.
