Grasmere

The Old Bridge
One of the first towns you will see upon reaching the Lake District amidst its narrow winding roads. Set in the middle of the 7 lakes, this little village town is bustling with quaint little shops and restaurants to suit any palette. ( there's a Thai restaurant even!) The picture shows one of its historical buildings i.e the smallest house in Britain made up of two rooms which used to house 2 families history has it.
Lake Coniston

Lake Coniston

Apart from the biggest Lake, Lake Windermere, there is also Lake Coniston which boasts a little pier where hotels abound in little corners of the Lake and great trails exist for trackers and hikers. The landscape is filled with hills that have been hit by glacier movements millions of years ago ( there are also some dormant volcanoes) and the view from the top is absolutely marvellous. There are also great camp sites for camping enthusiasts. For those less adventurous, there are many b&b's in town or you could even rent little cottages by the lakes or in town.
One of the views you will find all along the Lake District where you'll feel like you're in Beatrix Potter land. Well, you can even pass the house /s where she used to live. A great many British writers have been known to come from here as you will see from the landmarks provided.

Pros:"Small winding roads so, if you're not used to it, take a bus or train"
Cons:"Great place for walking."
