Favorite thing: Semur is a paradise for two singular types of artist: connoisseurs of furniture and old books and cinematographers. Auctions, galleries and antique shops greet the former. The image artists are first of all seduced by the overall pictures, and then charmed by the intact soul of an astonishing town.

The church of Notre-Dame

Favorite thing: This church is a good example of a triple-erected Gothic church, introduced in Burgundy at the beginning of the 13th century and originated in the workrooms of Picardie, l'Ile-de-France and Champagne.

Town of Semur

Favorite thing: The town of Semur has preserved its appearance of a 14th and 15th century fortress, when it was one of the most powerful fortified towns in the duchy, able to withstand the English Royal army. The towers: Orle d'or (Gold barrier), Gehenne, Prison and Margot are particularly impressive when seen from the Pont Joly, which crosses the Armacon to the west. By following the base of the town-walls it is possible to climb up again along the pink granite slope and enter the town. A beautiful tree-covered walk dominating the valley leads back southwards to the church whose two square towers command the view.
