Al-Mukawir contains the ruines of a palace of King Herodes, where apparently John the Baptist was held in jail and eventually beheaded. It is not much left from ther palace, but the magnificent views of Dead Sea and adjacent valleys fully justify the trip. See some of the views in the travelogue. |
