"The Winter of Our Discontent" Valley Forge National Historical Park by mrclay2000

Washington's Famous Stand

Children throughout American History have been taught the hardships of American soldiers quartered at Valley Forge during the harsh winter of 1777-8. Today Valley Forge is a beautiful park which is more overrun by deer and joggers than by history buffs, but even so there is a considerable collection of monuments, arches, battery locations and other structures that transport visitors back two centuries in time to bear witness to our colonial age.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautifully landscaped, wonderfully situated, splendidly filled
  • Cons:Some of the structures are reconstructed and it shows
  • In a nutshell:An important stopover for history buffs within the Philadelphia sphere

Incredible, only two comments left on this page since I made my original endorsement on December 11, 2003. It stands the test of time some three years later.

You've given me some incentive to visit Valley Forge next month while in PA with family. Haven't been there since I was a kid. Great overview!
