Oklahoma's Second Largest City Tulsa grew up under similar conditions as Oklahoma City, and as equals reaching maturity at the same time, neither grew up in the other's shadow. Like the larger capital city, Tulsa's downtown is a wonderful collection of old hotels and modern skyscrapers, with many of the former on the national register of historic places. Around the city center are a fine assortment of religious houses and other architectural gems, and farther out are the mom and pop businesses and merchandise houses of a modern metropolis. Known as the "Oil Capital of America," Tulsa has world-class art museums and an edge on Oklahoma City as the more cosmpolitan of the two. City streets are essentially listed alphabetically, so visitors can usually find their way around town without too much trouble. |

AlbuqRay Sat Oct 15, 2005 19:14 UTC Mike, excellent tips on Tulsa's architecture and its history. One of my grandfathers was once assistant postmaster in the Federal Building. | mtncorg Mon Oct 13, 2003 20:33 UTC It is too bad that the inner city of Tulsa is so lifeless off hours. No inner parks or squares? All the same, hail the new King of VT Tulsa!! | annk Sun Oct 12, 2003 20:52 UTC Good representation of the varied structures from modern to by-gone days. At least the city is preserving and not replacing the old buildings. Great reflection photo! | herzog63 Fri Sep 26, 2003 16:10 UTC I didn't realize that Tulsa was such a big city! I thought it was famous for truck stops....and cowboys! Quite a bit more cosmopolitan than I expected! |
