"Pawnee - Home to Many Surprises" Pawnee by mrclay2000

Pawnee Travel Guide: 14 reviews and 16 photos

You Never Would Have Believed It. . .

Pawnee is now a comparatively tiny town of 2,000 residents, but by cruising through the public square downtown you'd almost swear there were no more than 200. Despite its modesty, Pawnee boasts a number of unique claims within the state, even though its origin compares with countless other towns that sprang up as a result of the opening of the Cherokee Strip in 1893. For those of you who neither flinch nor belch at the mention of "National Register of Historic Places," nor mind a pristine whiteness of sky in the upcoming lackluster photographs, there will be much to marvel over the next two and one half minutes of idle web surfing.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A number of unique claims for its small size
  • Cons:Almost empty, seemingly deserted, if you hit town at the wrong hour
  • In a nutshell:Features the greatest spot for a residence in all of Oklahoma

We all should treasure and enjoy such wonderful towns as Pawnee. It is so wonderful to know that people like ourselves and others here in Vt enjoy them too. They are the steadfast reminders of our past! Thanks Mike!

Hey - I did not know that about Dick Tracey, one of my old favourites! Pawnee Bill's establishment looks very interesting as were your insights into Oklahoma's western culture - it was not as marked in the part of the state that I visited!

Such prose! Surely mrclay should give up on the numbers racquet and perhaps become the poet laureate of Oklahoma.

So, it's tough to find a truly original little hamlet in Oklahoma, eh? While this page isn't a ringing endorsement for Pawnee, it is a high quality page.
