"Jackson, Mississippi - Still a Sight for Sore Eyes" Jackson by mrclay2000

Jackson Travel Guide: 116 reviews and 269 photos

Named for Old Hickory

Every time I visit a capital city I visit the state capitol. Mississippi has one of the neatest in the nation, with its present structure finished c1903. Fortunately for photographers, the capitol lawn is spread wisely with magnolias and other trees, but images of the front facade and high dome are readily available to the lens.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Easy to find your way around
  • Cons:A little rundown away from the city center
  • In a nutshell:Small in population, warm in Southern tradition

Hubby is a direct descendant of Jackson--so we're going there for a weekend in June. Any suggestions in addition to what you have here? Did you eat anywhere good?

The capitol building looks like a worthwhile visit if in the area. Unfortunately, I've only been to Biloxi.

It would be neat to visit all 50 state capitols and the capitol buildings! Zrims comment makes me laugh! I have an uncle that lives near Jackson and he says It's pretty dang hot in the summer!

Nice pics of the capitol. Not nice enough to get me to Mississippi, however.
