The Land of Enchantment? You Be the Judge

What Can You Do with a State Full of Dust?

San Juan Mountains, along US-285
Our 5th largest state is known for quite little. On summer nights the Milky Way galaxy is a wondrous web of lights in the sky, but views such as these are common in the desert. New Mexico today is the seat of several Indian reservations. Few towns and villages give the appearance of wealth, and even the state capital at Santa Fe is as primitive as possible. However, when the sun is right during the daytime, as is possible in other desert settings, the colors in the layers of past ages intensify considerably. For a state with few claims to scenic beauty, circumstances sometimes warrant a second opinion.

The Spanish Catholic Influence

New Mexico is never far away from its Spanish-Mexican heritage. Streets and plazas still maintain their Iberian orientation to allow the influence of north-south breezes. Small towns generally support a catholic church. Little missions that once spread Christianity to the native people still exist in one form or another over the centuries.
