"Campton" Campton by Krumlovgirl

Campton is the county seat of Wolfe County. It’s original spelling was “Camp Town.” It’s a very small town (500 people), but its location right off the Mountain Parkway causes it to be a little congested. The northern part of it is included in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Local legend has it that Jonathan Swift’s silver mine is located somewhere near the town and you can even buy maps and go searching for it yourself if you wish. I’ve been to several of the purported sites, but alas, have found nothing. I attended preschool in Campton and back then there wasn’t even a red light in town. When they finally installed one almost everyone in the area ran it because nobody could remember that it was there.
