My first trip to London was a disaster. My airline lost all of my luggage and I never did get it back. And then, to top it all off, I met the man of my dreams (maybe) on the subway and then proceeded to lose him. At any rate, I found the city dirty, grimy, expensive, and cold. I was not impressed. On my second time around, however, I had better luck. During that trip I was able to see much more of the city than I had on the previous trip and I actually got out of London and visited some great places in the countryside. |
| | London at Christmas! My favorite time of the year to visit London is at Christmastime. It's not as cold as you might expect it to be and the city is beautifully decorated. Going to Harrod's at Christmas is an event unto itself and you must try some white hot chocolate at the Chocolate Bar. There are also lots of holiday events in the theatre district, such as plays for the children and traditional fare like "The Nutcracker." A couple of weeks ago we saw a production of "Little Women" in the West End and it was as warm and cosy as the holiday season itself. |
Day Trips It's up to you, but some of my favorite daytrips/organized tours out of the city include:
* King Arthur's Magical Tour: Stonehenge, Glastonbury Abbey, Avalon, Avebury & the crop circles
* Pilgrim's Progress Tour: Leed's Castle, Canterbury, Greenwhich, & the Cliffs of Dover
* The Cotswolds |  | |

| Pros: | "It's famous, there's a lot of stuff that you can see that you've seen on television, you can impress your friends by saying that you have been there" | | Cons: | "Expensive!!!" | | In A Nutshell: | "Go to say that you've been and then catch the Eurostar to Brussels or Paris." |
