We just could not seem to get away from the kinds of restaurants with tourist menus in 10 different languages. The food at these places could best be described as adequate. It'd fill you up, but wasn't worth remembering. In fact, I've had better Italian in America and Germany then we had in Venice.

    Favorite Dish: blech, no thanks.

A chinese restaurant: The only good place we ate

It's really sad to have to say that the best meal we ate in Venice was at a chinese restaurant. But it was darn fine chinese food.

Favorite Dish: It was very reasonably priced with most of the dishes being less then 10Euros. Of course the beer we drank pushed the price up a bit.

Harry's Bar: We couldn't pass it up

We just couldn't come to Venice without having drinks in Harry's Bar. It was a classic moment with my husband and parents. An expensive moment, too. Two irish coffees, a Bellini, and a glass of wine set us back over 60Euros. But we'd do it again for the experience.

  • Restaurants in Venice, and probably the rest of Italy, don't automatically take credit cards, which is something some travellers don't think about. When dining out, be sure to look to see if the restaurant has a visa/mastercard sticker in the window, or ask before ordering, or you could be in for an unpleasant surprise. Then be mortified when one of your party insists on arguing with the proprietor about the subject, instead of just learning from our error and moving on.

Nice tips. I agree that the restaurants in Venice coulb be disappointing and most of the cases - overpriced.
