| there are masses of people in central Amsterdam |
I certainly am no expert on Amsterdam....yet. I've been to the airport a few times and we spent just shy of 23 hours in the city in May 2003. In that time we walked probably 10 to 15 miles and saw much of the inner-core of the city. However, we were obviously not able to take advantage of the splendid museums.
The one thing that struck me in Amsterdam was the people. Such a confluence of cultures reflected in the endless variety of faces. It seemed that all races and cultures of the world were represented one way or another. Amsterdam is a great place to pick out a sidewalk cafe and just watch the people go by. |

pieter_jan_v Thu Aug 23, 2007 06:15 UTC Great typical intro picture. A shame I never met you (Looking for Z:) ). PJ | TheTravelSlut Thu Jul 19, 2007 17:40 UTC Excellent tips for Amsterdam. I took some notes for my trip next month! Thanks. Ann, The Travel Slut | Tugboatguy Tue Dec 6, 2005 04:59 UTC Phil, 23 hours obviously not enough for the good of Amsterdam. The Gr8 Indonesian food comes from the Dutch East Indies influence. You need to spend more time there & take canal cruise. Fine pics & tips, tho. Doug | Joan40 Thu Jun 3, 2004 23:53 UTC I found Amsterdam a little scary and unnerving. I felt I had to watch my back all the time. Maybe we just walked in the wrong bit? |
