The Melting Pot of Europe

by zrim - last update: Oct 11, 2003

there are masses of people in central Amsterdam
I certainly am no expert on Amsterdam....yet. I've been to the airport a few times and we spent just shy of 23 hours in the city in May 2003. In that time we walked probably 10 to 15 miles and saw much of the inner-core of the city. However, we were obviously not able to take advantage of the splendid museums.

The one thing that struck me in Amsterdam was the people. Such a confluence of cultures reflected in the endless variety of faces. It seemed that all races and cultures of the world were represented one way or another. Amsterdam is a great place to pick out a sidewalk cafe and just watch the people go by.

Phil, 23 hours obviously not enough for the good of Amsterdam. The Gr8 Indonesian food comes from the Dutch East Indies influence. You need to spend more time there & take canal cruise. Fine pics & tips, tho. Doug

I found Amsterdam a little scary and unnerving. I felt I had to watch my back all the time. Maybe we just walked in the wrong bit?
