Most world reknown composers of the 17th and 18th Centuries found their way to Vienna at one time or another. The majority of these are memorialized with statues found throughout the city.

Mozart was among the pre-eminent of this group and as such his statue occupies a place of honor in the Burgpark located directly behind the new wing of the Hofburg.

Located on the bustling Graben, the pedestrian mall in the center of the old town. The memorial was constructed in the 17th century to commemorate the victims of a harsh plague epidemic.

I get a real kick out of the black, blue, white and yellow tiled roof of St. Stephen's. We do not have such sights in the U.S. and I think it is a great way to decorate a roof.

I have no idea why some of the churches and cathedrals have tiled roofs in this part of Europe--I should find out.

An elevator will take you up most of the 72 meters for an upclose view of the Karlskirche dome. These celestial scenes were painted by Johann Michael Rottmayr. I was scared just walking up the steps once I got off the elevator--I cannot imagine what it was like painting the dome on rickety scaffolding back in the 1700s.

Once you are at the top of the dome, you can look out the windows at sprawling Vienna--unfortunately the windows are covered by mesh, so the opportunity for quality photography is lackluster at best.
