Venice in November has its rewards | Santa Marie della Salute at dusk |
We got on the jet to fly to Europe with some trepidation having just seen video footage of flooding in our destination of Venice. To top off the bad news--weather.com was predicting showers and highs only in the 40s for our entire four day stay.
But we had a blast. The flooding ebbed and waned. Sometimes we got our sneakers wet, but it made for an adventure. The plus side was that we had the city virtually to ourselves. We were able to wander throughout the city and into all the churches, basillicas and palaces without the hassle of being bumped and prodded by other tourists.
Dining was easy because every restaraunt and trattoria and osteria wanted our business. And one day the clouds lifted and we had three or four hours of sunshine.
There is something to be said for traveling in the off-season. Personally, I'd rather have clouds, chills and mist than the hordes that come with the summer sunshine. |
