Würzburg is the city that really got me hooked on Europe. Ever since I was a little kid, I had an intense wish to visit the castles of Europe. I dreamed about the day I would turn 18 and be free to venture off with my friends and a Eurail Pass. It didn't happen. But I figured That I'd study in Europe for a time during college. It didn't happen. No matter, I'd do post grad work on a fellowship. It didn't happen. Ah well, I'll join the state department and be a diplomat (almost happened, but not quite.) Fine, my new wife and I will honeymoon in Europe. Nope. Well you get the picture.
Then a strange thing happened. I became infatuated with the American West and all trips were planned around national parks and animals. Several years later, I got the opportunity to travel in Asia and my focus aimed in the far east.
Finally, in the year 2000 Europe fell in my lap. A free trip. Who can turn that down, although at the time I was, "um, ok, I guess I'll tag along." But what a time we had, beginning in Würzburg. The Residenz, the Castle, the Churches, the Bridge, the Beer. An impressive introduction to the adventures awaiting the European traveler. |

matcrazy1 Tue Feb 20, 2007 00:52 UTC Nice page and very impressive bridge! The castle looks interesting as well. | Gentleman75 Thu Aug 11, 2005 08:52 UTC A really nice page about Würzburg with great photos! | Nemorino Sun Jul 24, 2005 14:16 UTC Glad you enjoyed your visit here in 2000. Würzburg is a town I often go through on the train (once also once saw a fine opera premiere there, Massenet's Werther), but I haven't really stopped to look around for a long time. Hope to remedy that next week. | kenyneo Mon Apr 5, 2004 18:24 UTC Cool page Phil so how long do you take to cover wurzburg ? I am going bavaria soon ...keep up the good work |
