    • Favorite Thing: Distinctive with its four massive spires. The outside of the church is a romaneque type of architecture, but the inside is pure gothic with an impressive nave.

    If you are unfortunate enough to be with a tour group, you will learn a lot about a sculpture of an unknown horseman in the church. Some say its St. Stephen, some say its Konrad III, I say break away from the group and explore on your own!

    • Favorite Thing: The old town is so pretty with its Bavarian architecture. Try to find some high ground that will give you an opportunity to peer down into the hidden courtyards and back alleyways.

    • Favorite Thing: Bamberg puts its best face on the waterfront. All of the buildings are meticulously maintained and most put out flower boxes under the riverside windows. Nothing could be more pleasant than a stroll along the river in Bamberg's old town.

    • Favorite Thing: As the tour guides droned on, I snuck away to explore some of the lesser visited buildings. What is the story behind this baby blue building on a side street? Who knows because it is not on the tour. Yet it is striking and worthy of a photograph and a tip on VT.
