Home of the famous (or infamous depending on taste) Rauchbier, which means smoky beer. The nine remaining breweries still play an important part in Bamberg's commerce and tourism industry, but still a far cry from the 60 plus breweries which called Bamberg home in the nineteenth century.
The entire old town is a Unesco World Heritage site. Through the ages Bamberg was an important city in the state of Bavaria. Today it is relatively small and tourism is probably its biggest claim to fame. We were sorry only to have an afternoon to wander its lovely streets and riverfront. |
