I have very found memories of the Calgary Stampede and for a great dose of western Canadian culture you should take it in.
There is more than the rodeo, but it is a huge event!!! It is usually in July each year. Follow the link I provided and you will see there is a lot of fun to be had.
I remember the intense summer heat!!!
