If you like good people and good drink there is nothing like a good Irish pub full of Irish men and women drunken with an even more foolish group from Eastern Atlantic Canada!! This is a very lively spot in the Byward Market and highly recommended for a great time and great live music!

Nightlife Spot: D'Arcy McGee's

D'Arcy McGee's interior was designed and handcrafted in Ireland, and brought to Canada by ship. It was then placed in a heritage building, steps away from the place where the real D'Arcy McGee (Irish born Father of Confederation) was assassinated.

This authenticity extends to the food (traditional pub with a twist), the excellent selection of beer and liquor, and, of course, the convivial atmosphere.

I can barely remember have a lot of fun at this place. I personally recommend it. I have had some people tell me since the yuppie types go there sometimes after work and stuff, so you have to get it at the right times.

However you won't miss I don't think with the Heart and Crown in the By-Ward market. I have seperate tip for this place :-).

Nightlife Spot: Yuk Yuks

Steve Patterson begain full time stand up comedy in 1996 after being fired from his full time job as an advertising copywriter for shamelessly trying to inject humour into an ad for an amusement park. He has been described as a though provoking al around entertainer that connects very personally with every audience he faces. Steve has made several national television appearances on CTV's Comedy Now, CBC's Halifax Comedy Fest adn CBC Radio's Madly Off in All Directions and has tour several times in Ireland and the UK since 1999.

I give you the write up on Steve just to show that at Yuk Yuks you are going to get quality laughter, LOL! Also with Steve on the night of my visit were Derek Seguin and Mike Nemiroff two more funny guys.

This was my second visit to a Yuk Yuks performance. The other being in Toronto. This one was less provogative but still funny, hehe. Yuk Yuks in Ottawa is located in the Capital Hotel and for a night out, if you want to start the night off with some humour I highly recommend it.

It was interesting to compare Ottawa and Toronto in a sense. In Ottawa you can expect a lot of government overtones. I guess the comedians figure the people in Ottawa don't get enough of the government during their work days!
