Ottawa Hotel Tips by jamiesno

I have recommended the Delta Hotel because I have a picture of it and it is in a great location, the rooms are big and food is good there. It is right downtown and you can basically walk to everything from here.

But I also have seen the http://www.albertatbay.com/ and the Marriott and stayed at the Crown Plaza all within the same couple of blocks, these are all great choices from which to explore the rest of the city!!!

I stayed at the Crown Plaza on one occassion for a few days during the winter.

This is a nice clean hotel, I drank a fair share of red wine at this place in the bar downstairs.

It is nice and it is right in the heart of downtown, so basically everything is within walking distance.

I would stay here again for sure.

I never stayed at the Albert at Bay but I did see the suites one time when some friends were staying there and I ate supper there in their restaurant one night.

What I can tell you is this was a very nice and comfortable suite hotel. The rooms or I should say suites were big and just an overall comfortable feeling around this place.

The food was great as well and it too is right downtown close to a lot of attractions.

I stayed at the Sheraton in Ottawa in the fall of 2006 attending a conference for the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples. I have to say that it was a very comfortable hotel with great service and there is one thing now that I've come to notice about this and other Sheraton hotels and that is the quality of the bed. There is good sleeps here!

I certainly recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Unique Qualities: The hotel has a nice lounge, great rooms and a nice exercise area.

I thought the hotel was also located in a great spot as well. I went for a daily jog and it was just a minute to cross a couple of streets and I was right on the Rideau Canal. The Rideau Centre was just 10 minutes away on foot, several nice restaurants, the by-ward market was close, Yuk Yuks teh comedy bar and so on .

I never actually stayed here overnight but I did attend meetings here for a couple of days and I did go to Yuk Yuks the comedy bar in the hotel one night.

I can tell you the Captial Hill is less expensive than some other places in the area. It is more of a budget hotel I guess you would say but it is in an excellent location downtown. During my last visit at some meetings the place was overcome with students from a University who were in town to conduct a mock parliament in the Parliament buildings.

Unique Qualities: The fact Yuk Yuks is in the hotel makes it a bonus. If you like comedy you can just head downstairs and fill your boots with laughs.

The Chimo is your very basic hotel. There is nothing fancy to write home about but there are some positives. It is directly across the street from the St. Laurant Shopping Center for those who like to shop. The food in the restaurant was pretty good and the pub had lots of televisions that were great for watching the hockey games.

There was also free wireless Internet that worked very well and I think every hotel should be offering that.

The exercise room was tiny with equipment that was severely dated but at least there is a room there. I passed and chose to relax on this trip. The pool looked nice and there was a small hot tub that I should of used if I had my time back.

So overall a half decent budget hotel and its about $10 in a cab from downtown Ottawa. During my stay I noticed the Canadian Rangers were there with school aged kids as well.

In April 2008 I stayed at the Marriott on Kent Street. I have come to the view that I seem to sleep best at the Marriott chain. The beds are great.

The Marriott on Kent and Queen has the Merlot restaurant up above up top. The beds are great as usual. There is a good gym and health spa at the hotel and the place is situated right downtown so I think the location is convenient.

Ottawa is a great spot for running and this hotel is just a short jog to the Rideau Canal.

Unique Qualities: The greatest beds and the Merlot Rooftop Restaurant. I have a seperate tip on the Merlot. I remember the quote in the Academy Award Winning Comedy titled Sideways where the actor says "I am not drinking any f*&#((*g MERLOT!" lol.

The service was also great here and Mighty Leaf Green Tea the function I was attending Workforce Connex was great.
