Medieval town, still these days...

Riquewihr is a well preserved town in which layout and structure have not changed since the Middle Age.
The old houses built in the 16th and 17th century gives the visitors an image of hundred of years ago. Still every detail of that period is 'alive' : the courtyards, the galleries, the wells, the fountains...
The architecture of the Middle Age town can be seen because the people have not changed much to their houses. Wine making is their main objective in life and an growing industry is part of it...

Towns Gate

The fortified city is only accessible through a few narrow entrances. This one is rather small, some are a little wider so also larger vehicles could enter the city...

The Wineyards

The town is surrounded by wine yards.
Wine has played a very large part in the life and prosperity of this medieval town. Famous wine-growing families stayed in Riquewihr for generations...
