Between Utah and Omaha... Point du Hoc was a strategic very important place. In between the two landing zones for the Allied Army, 'Utah' and 'Omaha'- Beach. German artillery overlooked the two beaches and heavy guns pointed towards the upcoming landing crafts... This point had to be conquered as fast as possible... |
The Defence These bunkers with a six-guns battery was a part of the defence-line along this part of the coast. A landing was not expected here because of the dificult coast line. Cliffs, rocks,... it was not the ideal place to come ashore. |
Concrete all over the place... The german soldiers were waiting here, weeks and weeks, for the landing to begin... Because of bad weather in the region and a possible landing near Calais, only a few troops were stationed here... Hours before the operation started these targets came under heavy gun-fire... the invasion and liberation of Europe started...! |
