Pink City and Capital of Rajasthan

by Peter_P - last update: Dec 28, 2002

City Palace Complex

In the hart of the old city. It is a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The son of the last Maharaja still lives in this palace...

Not bad to live in...

Palace of the Winds or Hawa Mahal

Five storey building, originally build to enable ladies of the royal household to watch everyday life in the city. It's not more than a facade.

Example of Rajput artistry with pink sandstone windows...

Fort-Palace of Amber

Situated on a hillside and overlooking a lake and the city of Amber.
Again an example of Rajput architecture and build by Maharaja Man Singh.
On the back of an elephant it is easy to get to the entrance, otherwise it is a 10 minute climb...

In A Nutshell:"Go and see the amazing traffic in the old town, the daily market and the different religious quarters..."

Great photo! My long term memory of Jaipur was stopping the traffic outside the Palace of the winds. I had been waiting ages to cross with no luck so walked out with my arm in the air and they all stopped. My husband was amazed.
