Oahu, Hawaii

Aloha Oe

public beach, Lanikai
For beautiful beaches and awesome weather, you just can't beat Hawaii. The skies are almost always blue (showers are usually brief) and the water is always warm. The water is the most amazing shades of greens, turquoise, and blues you can imagine. And they are everywhere for the enjoying..free of charge. Public parks with grass and palm trees for shade often provide picnic tables just feet from the beaches where you can take a quick dip to cool off.

I don't think I could live on the island for a very long time as I'd start to long for weather other than warm, a bit muggy, and sunny. I'd miss the cold, crisp autumns and snow in the winter. But, for a holiday...it's perfect.

My advice is to get out of Honolulu and its tourists. It's just another big city with traffic jams and one hotel after the other. Go to the North Shore and see how beautiful the small towns and countryside are here. It's like another world away from Honolulu...and less expensive.

I think the best time to go is winter or early spring. You'll get a few more showers, but the weather is a bit cooler and less muggy than in summer and early fall.

 Another good way to get rid of the sting from a man'o'war is to use meat tenderizer! I'm not kidding! If you have the powdered kind, just make a paste using some sea water and smear it all over the sting and it totally neutralizes the stingers.

 Totally am familiar with the manowars, we have same problems here in South Florida and did notice them when we were in Hawaii! Human urine also takes the stinging away and, what we use here in Miami.
