Detroit - A Phoenix rising from the ashes

by phred1910 - last update: Jul 11, 2003

Maligned too long

Woodward Avenue
Murder City, Beirut of the USA, Ghost Town, Dead City, City on Fire....these monikers were all once true about Detroit, but now you will see a proud city on the way back. Beautiful theaters restored to their original beauty. Hotels in the process of being restored. Two new sports stadiums. Compuware headquarters. Campius Martius Park. The Renaissance Center redevelopment. The Opera Hall and Orchestra Place. Casinos. A plan for developing the waterfront...Detroit is truely on a comeback...combine this revitalization with the tough as nails attitude of the locals and you have a city that is poised to breakthrough in the near future.

While I am currently living in Germany, I feel I owe it to my past/future home to publicize the good that Detroit has to offer to my fellow travel lovers...This page will be a work in progress for quite a while as I am also exploring what Europe has to offer...
Kid Rocking the Palace

Music

Aretha Franklin, Motown, Berry Gordy, Iggy Pop, MC5, Bob Seger, Kid Rock, Eminem, White Stripes....Detroit has always been at the forefront of music from Motown to Punk to Arena Rock to Rap to Garage Rock....we still have a few hidden gems yet to be discovered like Thornetta Davis, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise....also you can find some of the finest Jazz improv anywhere after hours.

Detroit Rock City !!!!
