Anchorage, the city between the ranges

by Scandic - last update: Dec 7, 2004

I love this city...Simply.

My Town
"And the road travels on
But I'm still near you
In my life, like a song
I will still hear you
Still"

Someone New - Eskobar (duet with Heather Nova)

This is the city, where I could live in future. Anchorage is the largest city of Alaska, but not that big anyway. There is only 300 000 inhabitants, but there is everything you need. And look at the scene, there is nature just in your backyard! That makes this city so great, awesome, fabulous. You can live in town, next to take-away coffee shops, near sea view and malls. Then, only 20 minutes and you're out of the town, reaching nature parks and gorgeous mountains.
The mountains are watching

and its great outdoor possibilities...

I lived and work in Anchorage in summer 2004. It was the best summer ever for me and this town totally stole my heart, seriously. I know I have written in my Porvoo pages that i could end up there, but since Anchorage stepped to picture, this might be even more relevant option.

It is hard to put in words, why I like this city so much. It is the beauty of it, people, mountains, the ocean, the coffee stands, native culture of it. I miss it so much. I had so great time there, in bookstores, on trails of it, on shops, under the midnight sun.

"Anchorage’s extensive trail system is one of the best in the United States, according to a past issue of Bicycling Magazine. The American Hiking Society agrees, naming Anchorage second on a recent list of Top Trail Towns. "

and the mooses there.

Mooses. They are everywhere here. They spend time on trails, expecially at Coastal Trail. On 'my' trail, Campbell Creek, I saw them almost every day. They get along with people so perfectly that is just amazes me.

So in my life at this point, I will be in Finland for a moment. but what ever I do, I do it on a way that someday I could (if I still wants to) end up to Anchorage.

"And the sun will come on thru,
It's gonna shine for you
'Cause I adore you"
and the mooses too.

Pros:"It is so simple and compact, you have everything there what you need for a city/outdoor -combination lifestyle."
Cons:"Some areas of town are not-so-nice."
In A Nutshell:"Say hi to my heart when visiting there."
