Because you are a special secret. Let's keep it that way. Say, for instance, you have a beautiful and ancient harbour. And facing that harbour you have a curving row of elegant, frescoed edifices. Nothing higher than six stories beause that is as high as people will climb before the elevator is invented. So to make absolutely sure you will not be over run with the map people (tourists) erect an elevated motor way. What an excellent idea! Give that man a beer! When I saw this I sank onto a bench with awe and though - The Cahill Expressway. But in Sydney we only had a extraordinarily beautiful harbour to blemish. We did not have that kilometre of amazing historic buildings. So we could not deface ourselves quite to the same extent. "Deface yourself!" cried Simon Armitage, the English poet, at the 10th Genoa International Poetry Festival. It was a cri de coeur that I empathised with strangely. I showed this photo to my husband and he said - The Cahill Expressway. |
| | Here I sit on the steps in the square of the Palazzo Ducale. My favourite lookout. I sat here for hours. I will go on sitting there forever and ever. From time to time I will pop down to the old quarter for aperativo - then I will be back. This is my possy. Next time you are passing through have a look for me. |

Zvrlj Wed Oct 7, 2009 01:50 UTC "Stalking Lou Reed In Genoa" is marvelous story. "Lou Reed said ciao to me!" sounds almost like Warhol's "Lou Reed got married and didn't invite me" :-) | BruceDunning Sat Aug 1, 2009 20:18 UTC I have not been to this area by the water-but your pictures and comments help in the decision to get there | lynnehamman Mon Jul 6, 2009 01:02 UTC Amusing page on Genoa, Jennifer.
