"What a pretty town. Stay safe now." Gembrook by craic
Gembrook Travel Guide: 9 reviews and 31 photos
We took a run out to this pretty little town last week. What a charmer. It is close to the Dandenong Ranges (the Puffing Billy ends up here) but it is over the border and in Gippsland.
Unfortunately it is very close to the Bunyip Forest where there is a fire raging now. Hopefully it will make it - be such a shame to lose it.
Update - After being on the knife edge for weeks Gembrook survived. I went out by bus for a day trip this week (winter) and had a closer look around. The bus trip from Belgrave is very pretty and the town is worth a look. But if you plan a trip in the fire season (October-March) check out there are no fires close by.
- Pros:Prettiest little place.
- Cons:Lot of bush around.
- In a nutshell:Usually a plus lots of bush. But not always.

Nice page! Nice when they have an avenue of trees to remember the dead! Have seen Puffing Billy, but have never done the ride.
Thank you for your kind comment on my Ingapirca page. Gembrook seems like a pleasant place to do nothing much for a few days. Great photos and tips.
My family and I have recently expanded our notion of such a delightful thing: the Great Outdoors. We love being outside and would absolutely enjoy a hike through the Gembrook Bushland Park.
Glad to see all the memorials in place here . Looks like a pleasant spot to while away a few hours in.
G'day, Jennifer! It's a fabulous place to visit!
A lovely area, even if there's a substantial fire risk in summer. The memorial is without doubt a 'some tree' (now very rare as most were used for memorials).
Loved the memorial to the trees. That tree was really very big! Thanks Jennifer for sharing!
Hope the fire is calmed! Looks relaxing
i could really enjoy a place like that i'd brook that it is a gem.
I like steam trains, and the stations where they stop! I hope this place will not become another victim of the fire.
