I am stuck here in Upwey with no big trips planned until next year so might as well enjoy it right?
Here I am in my Hanging Gardens of Babylon keeping back the jungle. Plus our neighbour's ginger cat. |
| | I went down the train line to take a look at Alamein. Curious because my uncle fought at El Alamein. Our`Alamein is a quiet little place on a branch line. Hasn't even got a location on VT so I put it on Camberwell. |
There is an excellent op shop in our village. I pop in two, three times a week. And I have had some excellent scores.
| | The CFA (Country Fire Authority) down the road from us had their annual sale and it was packed! Here they are in their yellow uniforms holding back the throngs until 9am. |
Downstairs is the afternoon sleep couch with resident cat and view of trees. You have to book in advance though because it is very popular.
| | Ten minutes down the road in Uppwer Ferntree Gully is the 1000 steps Kokoda Track Memorial Walk. It is very very pretty, and very very hard, and very very popular. One is bowled aside the superfit. Some of them are in training to climb Kilimanjaro or walk in Nepal. |
The pretty tourist villages are just up the hill. This is Sassafras.
| | The local wildlife is colourful. This a king parrot who drops by on our back deck. |

pieter_jan_v Sat Jul 4, 2009 20:18 UTC Jennifer, a must to see: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/ab553/#TL | ChrisThao Sat Jul 4, 2009 00:45 UTC I wouldn't call you "Sir," even if you happen to be my commanding officer in the Navy. ~_^ By the way, Upwey seems to be a charming peaceful town - childhood memories of growing up in a peaceful alpine Colorado, USA town. Ah..........Those were the days. | Rhondaj Fri Jul 3, 2009 11:00 UTC 1. ginger cat wants you to put down the spade and pet it. 2. does couch booking include the resident cat or does it cost extra to bribe the cat for company? | JLBG Fri Jul 3, 2009 04:15 UTC Thank you Jennifer for visiting my Gjirokaster and Mesopotam pages. Kadare is a great author that would deserve the Nobel prize. Among his books, I recommend "Cold Flowers of March" amazingly named in French "Froides fleurs d'avril"! |
