Buses awaiting passengers
There may be times that your bus will change without you knowing it. this can become quite chaotic as you try to figure out where your bus will be going and when it will be leaving. This happened a couple of times along the trip. Bear in mind that you do not have a reserved seat when you buy your bus ticket. There may be more people to board when you stop. If you are getting back on be sure to "mark" your spot or it could be taken. The tour companies try to accomodate their travelers and they may actually have a different bus scheduled to complete the trip than the one you arrived on. Just keep your eyes and ears open.

Fording Blafjallakvisl in Fjallabak
If you are hiking in Iceland you will definitely encounter water. Prepare for this. I wouldn't say this is a warning or a danger, though it could be. It is actually quite fun. If you are going through it look for shallower parts and areas that aren't quite so quick. At least that is what I look for. The water can be quite cold so you want to get your socks and boots back on quickly. You will want to make sure your water "shoes" are adequate and well made. But have fun with it. In places it can be knee deep. I am 6ft 4in and it was even up to my knees at times!
Braving the snow cliff
At times you may come across areas of hiking trails that aren't quite "stable". Bear in mind, hiking can be done throughout the year in Iceland and what works in one season may not work in another. This was a part of our hike along the Landmannalaugar - Thorsmork trek but it was also kind of fun. NO special equipment was needed but we also followed in someone else's footsteps. Just watch your step, and do what you can to keep your balance.

"Ice cave" near Hrafntinnusker
If you are doing any hiking in Iceland this is something to keep on the look out for. As the sun stays out longer and the temperature rises (not much in Iceland), the rivers widen and the snow becomes weaker. Bear in mind that some parts of the trail that easily go over snow in the winter are now larger gullies or small streams. Likewise in the winter, you may need special equipment to do most of the hikes.
It is a good idea to contact Ferdafelag Islands before you go on the hike or trek if you are doing it independently and ask for an update. Their contact information is included
