The central train station has both local and national trains that run every hour or more. Be sure to check out their routes from the central station and various tours you can take. They all range in price and time but many of them start in Oslo.

Well connected

The Metro lines in Oslo are really easy to use and connect you to all parts of the city. Most of the tickets can be bought from the kiosks in the stations or from 7-11 type stores around the city. You can have them from anywhere from 1 hour to 7 days. Just be sure to stamp them on the way. Maps are located in the terminals or for sale at the kiosks or tourist information. Sometimes the kiosk machines are unable to accept bills so be sure to have change on you.
