This area is very easy to find and yet set apart from the rest of the city. It is the old medieval fortress of the first rulers of Prague. The Tabor Gate was built just after the 30 Years War. There are remnants of older gates just inside. Take the Tram to the Vysehrad station, and follow the signs.

There are ruins of the 10th century fortress still visible on the Vysehrad grounds. The Royal apartment foundations are still visible near the Vysehrad Gallery. Some of the ruins have been incorporated into present day structures but it does give you the impression of why this hill was used as the ruling seat of Prague. Take a look at the ruins on the other side of the gallery.

This church has undergone many different architectural variations. It was finished in a Neo-Gothic style in the late 1800's by Josef Mocker. The interior is visited by a 20KCZ donation and open minded idea of art nouveau, a lot of which exists in the artistry. It is open from 9-5 daily with a break between noon and 1pm.

The hilltop of Vysehrad gives one a great look into the city of Prague. It allows you to see down the Vlata valley and into New Town. The park of Vysehrad has many walkways through it and one which follows the outer wall.
