This was one state I never thought I'd ever get an opportunity to see. So what do I do--ROAD TRIP! We started out in Souix City and went west young man! We made it across the entire state and tried to see some things that were close by I-90 and not too far off the road. Our main destination was Rapid City. It was great to drive through such amazing landscape and small towns.
South Dakota still has that old frontier charm to it that I was expecting to see. Since our focus was the west we went through the Badlands, Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments and the town of Deadwood. There was a lot to see and we made it to all of them in great time.
This page is still under construction so please come back again.
- Pros:Beautiful, expansive, and great hospitality
- Cons:Closure of attractions and parks due to seasons or weather
- In a nutshell:Great place to visit with friends and family!

Greetings from Ireland. It’s simply great to meet you here on VT! I like your pages and will drop by to see how they develop. Best wishes ronaldbarr
I drove through the badlands and saw Mt. Rushmore long enough to snap a quick b&w photo back in the early 1970s. It was probably the most touristy place I've ever been. An incredible monument, though.
