Berlin: Where East met West

by bpwillet - last update: Jan 5, 2004

Reichstag-Berlin, Germany
Berlin is filled with museums and exquisite buildings. The sheer history that is present in this city is fantastic. From the Berlin wall, to the 17th Century castles and palaces, to the more modern looking areas like Potsdamer Platz. This city has enough to fascinate everyone who crosses its streets and winds down its rivers.

Berlin is a large expansive city. It has been on my list to travel to for some years now. I took the opportunity to visit some friends while I was there and luckily one of them is German. He was the ultimate tour guide. I feel so lucky to have been able to walk around with him. It amazes me still that this city at one point in our not so distant history was so dramatically separated. I remember when the Berlin Wall came down but I was not at an age where I could fully grasp the concept. Seeing Berlin today is a bustling city with so much life and energy. It is a must if you are traversing through Germany to visit.
Take the time to relax at one of the many cafes or on a boat trip on the Spree. The vistas of the city are phenomenal from many vantage points. And be sure to try the local Berlinerweiser (or any beer for that matter) and a curry-wurst.
