As a teen I used to dive these waters, drive my little sports car up and down Route 1 and took it all for granted.
After moving away for more than 25 years and revisting my favorite haunts, I realized this place will always be engrained in my soul. Route 1 from Santa Barbara to San Francisco is one of the most beautiful scenic rides one can take, in the US. The views change at every turn and there is a untamed ruggedness about this area. Most of Calif has been protected, for good reason, by environmentalists. Its here for all to enjoy. In the 70's it was a great place to load up your friends in a van and camp on the beaches. Those days are now gone, camping is no longer permitted and the coast is severely regulated, with much of the area US Federal Property.
