India - Land of Extremes | View from Floating Palace in Udaipur |
India is a country everyone should visit. The monuments are fantastic, although they are in rough condition, probably due to the fall of the RAJ states and the plundering of the Brits during theri occupation. The Indians lived far better under the Raj's than under the Brits, who eventually were booted out. India is the land of extremes, the wealthy live beside the poorest people on earth, it is hot, it is cold, it can be arid, or it can be lush and tropical. A huge country, not only in land mass, but in population. India's economy is booming ! Everywhere you go, construction is being done. Women clad in saurees are building roads, carrying rock filled or cement containers on their heads. If you like curry, the cuisine is varied and fantastic. Just avoid Delhi belly by sticking to well cooked foods, no salads, no dairy and no water, unless bottled. Bring antibiotics such as bactrim (septra) which will kill any known organism that causes gastroenteritis. Go, have fun, shop at the wonderful bizaars, its safe and the Indians are a gentle people, but watch you pockets! |
