Budapest-The Queen of Danube The thing that strikes first time visitors is that the great river Danube divides the city in two. And it was two cities in the early days. The Buda-side is hilly while the Pest-side is flat. Buda is the older part and has many historical sights and buildings. From the Royal Palace, that is located on the Gellert Hill, you have a spectacular view over the Pest-side. From there you can see the Parliament and the Margaret Island. Pest is the modern and the more commercialized part. The streets are filled with shops, restaurants and cafés. It´s hectic, busy and sprawling. Parks with lush, green vegetation are scattered all over Pest. Here you can relax and get away from it all. Allthough Budapest has had a tragic past, it has always remained the culrural center of Europe. In the early 1900s when Vienna and Budapest were two, people from all over the world came to this amazing city to rubb shoulders with the high society. And still today many famous people has been wondering around the cobbled streets of Budapest. The most famous are Antonio Banderas and Madonna who shot parts of her movie Evita here.
Budapest has everything a modern city has to offer and more. Come and see for yourself! |
