There are strange things done in the midnight sun

Lake LaBerge is probably the most dangerous part of the 435 mile Yukon river canoe trip from Whitehorse to Dawson. You will be following the path of the 1896 Stampeders who were looking to strike gold in Dawson City. The Lake is 30 miles long and can take 2-4 days to paddle, depending on the weather. If you fly back from Dawson to Whitehorse, you will fly over the river and the lake and have a nice view if the weather permits. This picture shows the Yukon river entering the Lake from the right. We wanted to hug the right shore of the lake when we came out of the river, but there was a wind pushing us away from shore and we found it difficult to get over to the shore.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful when calm, good lake trout fishing
  • Cons:Very dangerous in a sudden storm that can swamp your canoe
  • In a nutshell:Keep next to the shore in case of sudden storm
