Carul cu Bere - Interior

Eat Drink & Be Merry

Bucharest has changed since my first visit in 1970, but the restaurants are much the same, except that they have food!. This is an old restaurant which has been renovated recently. The food and beer is good and in the traditional style, although they did not have ciorba nor mic one sunday evening. Soak up the ambiance. Book for busy days or go elsewhere.

A well kept secret

The army club on Calea Victoria, on the corner with Bvd Elizabeta, is a good place to eat and open to the public. There is a group in the evenings, so do not sit too close to the stage. Be careful not to wander into the general's section.

It is worth a visit just for the decoration.
Interior of the Circe Militar
Evening Show at the Perla

An evening's entertainment

The Perla restaurant on the corner of Stefan cel Mare and Dorobanti is a cheap and cheerful restaurant serving traditional food with a folklore floor show by students.

Romanian hosts would rather take you to an expensive european style restaurant, but it still worth a visit.

Pros:"It has good rail connections"
Cons:"The the dogs and the gypsies, the potholes and the rubbish"
In A Nutshell:"Romanians are friendly and helpful, unless you do business"

Interesting page! I agree with you about taxi cabs. Dishonest cab drivers give a bad impression of a city and drive away tourists. Cities should crack-down on such dishonesty. Best from New Jersey, Bill
