We visited Palau in Dec 2002 and was amazed by the marine life, coral reefs, blue waters and charmed by the warmth and culture of the Palauan people.
Travelling to Palau from Singapore used to be a circuitous route. However, since I was based in Taipei, I took advantage of the direct flight from Taipei. I joined a Taiwanese tour group (took care of air ticket and accomodation) but signed up for day trips with the local tour operator, Sam's Dive Tours.
Although both my wife and myself were non-divers, we joined kayaking and land tours with Sam's.The guides on both days were local Palauans (Shaft and Malahi). They were knowledgeble and friendly.
- Pros:wonderful for diving, snorkelling and war history
- Cons:high standard of living due to US$
- In a nutshell:pack your sunscreen and go now!
