Sacré-Coeur - A view From the Hill | Monument to the conquering Napoléon in Lucern |
Everyone who has been to Paris has most likely seen Sacré-Coeur (Sacred Heart), but the secret this photographer knows, is that the best view is from behind at the top of the steps. At night it is illuminated!
From the Lamarack-Caulaincourt exit of the métro in the direction Porte de la Chapelle, turn right and follow rue Lamarac across the rue Caulaincourt, then go up the hill about 150 yards and climb the steps of the rue de la Bonne. The Roman-Byzentine concordance of turret, dome, and apse (with a lone figure of Saint Michael) standing out against the night sky. |

| | An All Night Bistro I love the foods of Paris and of France. From sandwiches in the train stations (there are 6 stations) to the yummy cookies and croissants with jam that are eaten for breakfast with the fantastic café au lait.
When all else is closed and you are hungry late at night go to La Tour de Montléry: Chez Denise. It is the last of the 24-hour restaurants of Paris. With red checked cloths on the tables, and the mainly frnech crowd eating hearty, sturdy, and generously served French food. From steaks to lamb with stuffed cabbage and frites. Dont forget dessert!
It will be very smoky and you must have a reservation. 5 rue des Prouvaries, 1st (01 42 36 21 82) |

| | Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation memorializes and preserves the memory of the 200,000 French who died in the Nazi camps. An unknown victim lies in the center, surrounded by quotes from Desnos, Sartre, and others, a shining crystal represents each person. Outside the night light plays on the Siene, and is visible through a stone-bound porticullis. Square de L' Ille de France, 4th go along the Quai de L'Archevêché look for the steep staircase that funnels visitors from the light into shadow. |

| Pros: | "Paris is fantastic, she is beuatiful, she need not cost a fortune. There are a million things to see and do and nearly all of them cost nothing. Buy a métro/bus pass (they last varying periods) especially for tourists." | | Cons: | "Gypsies, tamps and thieves! There are so many begars! Just ignore them, they are not needy ! They generally have mor jewelry and wealth than we do. They will rob you and pick pockets! Say "va via" , "allez" all mean go away." | | In A Nutshell: | "Ride the buses if you can't figure the métro out. The buses run even on holidays!" |
