Anniversary in "Venezia"

Romance or rip off???

My wife and I made a trip to Venice for our first anniversay celebration. I had never been to Venice before although my wife had spent a day there a few years ago on a family trip.

First impressions:- Wow just like the pictures you see, all old building rising out of the water and lovely back canals with impressive architecture everywhere. No cars!
Expensive food and drinks and shops everywhere!

Guess I would have to say for our annivesary trip it was wonderful as the cost was irrelevant, but if not a special trip I would say the cost of everything would perhaps put a downer on your travels!

Locanda Vivaldi

We stayed at the Locanda Vivaldi, a small 4* hotel based on the lagoon front about 5 minutes stroll from St Marks Square. This is actually Vivaldi's old house and the church where he used to teach was next door as you can see from the pictures.

All rooms very nice if a little small as most city centre hotels are in Europe. Elegant typical Venetian decoration everywhere in the room and all furniture and towels etc were of high quality.
Breakfast was served outside under a marquee on the roof terrace with amazing views across the lagoon and round to Doges Palace. Wow!

Things to do`

Stroll, stroll, stroll!!!

Venice is a great place to wander the back streets and get yourself "lost". The reality is you won't really get lost as at some point you will see signs for Rialto or San Marco painted on the walls of buildings and you somehow always end up there.
there are so many little bars and cafes and shops to wander in and out you will never get bored!

Pros:"Romantic, Beatiful and unique setting, amazing history, ice cream!!"
Cons:"Cost and feeling of always being ripped off by everyone"
In A Nutshell:"Go there before it sinks - its special"
